It is the ideal path to walk it in half a day. One of the best views of the Cerro Fitz Roy.
Although the path has some slope you reach the viewpoint without difficulty.
De los Tres Lagoon 4 hours (going)
It is the nearest point to match the Cerro Fitz Roy. An incredible walk.
There are two ways to arrive and both are equally correct.
One of them is going from the town of El Chaltén, taking the path to Capri Lagoon.
From the lagoon the path continues even until Poincenot Camp (free camp for tourists).
Afterwards you should cross the Blanco River through a suspension bridge and reach
Blanco River Camp (camp for climbers). From this point, the path continues with a 400 mts
ascendant slope (1 hour aprox.) until you reach De los Tres Lagoon where you will have the
best view you can imagine from De Los Tres Glacier, Cerro Poincenot, Cerro Fitz Roy and its
hanging glaciers. Only 10 minutes away going round through the left margin from De Los Tres
Lagoon, you will find the Sucia Lagoon, incredible!
Another way to reach the path to De Los
Tres Lagoon is by car or transfer to Río Blanco Bridge through Ruta Provincial N 23 (which also takes you to Desierto Lagoon)
at 15 km. from the town of El Chaltén. An hour and a half of walking distance you will
arrive to a fantastic viewpoint of Piedras Blancas Glacier. Following the path through one
hour more (at this point the slope is minimum) you will get to Poincenot Camp, where you find
the two paths (the one that goes up through town and the one that goes out from Río Blanco Bridge (Ruta 23)) If you choose to go by car you have to take
the same path to go and return. Instead if you go by minibus to Río Blanco Bridge,
you can go up through this path and return through Capri Lagoon.
Cerro Torre Viewpoint 1:30 hour (going)
The path begins with a moderate ascension through Fitz Roy River's course,
until you arrive to Cerro Torre viewpoint, where you will discover a beautiful
view of Cordón Adela, Cerro Torre and all the granite needles that surround it.
Laguna Torre 3 hours (going)
One of the classic walks of El Chaltén that will take you to the Adela's Cordón
and the incredible Cerro Torre. Going from the viewpoint, the tour follows 1.30 aprox.,
the path is practically plane till you reach De Agostino Camp (free camp) and 15 minutes away from the camp,
you have to climb up the morrena to find the lagoon and Cerro Torre's magnificence.
Valle del Río Eléctrico (Piedra de Fraile)
The path begins from the Río Eléctrico bridge 16 km away from El Chaltén
taking the same route that takes you to Lago del Desierto. In the beginning, the path goes up river
Río Eléctrico and then opens entering the incredible woods of Lengas.
You will arrive after 2 hours of walking until Piedra de Fraile (private camp),
you will discover a completely different view of the Fritz Roy from the North.
Pliegue Tumbado 5 hours (going)
The path starts in the offices of the National Park. Though moderate,
the path is completely in ascent. It takes 4 hours to get Pliegue Tumbado viewpoint,
where you will be able to watch nearly every hill, Cerro Solo, Cordón Adela, Glaciar Grande,
Cerro Torre with its lagoon and the Fitz Roy.
Ice trek Cerro Torre (12 hours - average difficulty)
This is the classic tour of El Chaltén. It is design for people who want
to experience something unique and different and because of lack of experience they couldn't
go deep into the glacier by themselves. At 7 am begins the tour. From town the group departures
with its guides and after a 2 and a half hour of walking, the group arrives to Thorwood Camp
(providers camp) only half an hour away from the De Agostini Camp. The guides will provide
you with special footwear to walk on ice and a harness. 30 minutes away from this camp, you
will find a Tyrolese that cross the Fitz Roy. After crossing by the Tyrolese the path follows
through the morrena of Laguna Torre, entering incredible woods of lengas. One hour later the
glacier starts to appear. The activity over the glacier lasts aprox. 3 hours and you will
be able to have one of the most spectacular views of the Patagonia, the Cerro Torre, Torres
Egger and Standhard. The tour is across drains, cracks and ice caves, where the guides will
also give you some basic tips for ice climb and be able to practice it, have lunch over the
glacier and afterwards return to camp and finally to town. Snack not included.
Ice trek Cerro Torre All Inclusive (one night at camp)
This program was thought for people who are willing to have an intense experience combining mountains,
glaciers, night at camp and incredible dawns. It includes snack reception at camp, dinner, breakfast and lunch.
Sleeping bags, tents and insulators included.
Viedma Ice Trek (average difficulty)
A tour that combines trekking and sailing over the Viedma glacier. Great ice caves!
The tour begins from El Puerto de Bahía Túnel only 12 km away from El Chaltén.
The sailing completely borders all Bahía Túnel coast, reaching Viedma Lagoon and
crossing the incredible Viedma glacier front. After 1 hour sailing passengers will disembark on a
rocky headland where the guide tour begins. After a 1 hour walking, you will go near the glacier
to enter the incredible ice caves and here the guides will provide you with special footwear to
climb the glacier for 2 hours and find an extraordinary blue glacier! After these 2 hours glacier
walking you will return to the craft and have lunch. At 3:30 PM you will arrive to Bahía Túnel
pier and from there back to town. Lucnh is not included. Departure at 9 AM. Tour duration 6 hours.
It is the same previous tour without glacier trekking. Disembark on the rocky headland until
arrive to the caves. Departure at 9 AM. Tour duration 6 hours.
Departure at 3:30 PM and lasts 2:30 hours. The sailing is across Viedma Lagoon in front of glacier
with a great view to the Fitz Roy massifs and Cerro Huemul. While sailing in front of the glacier yoy
will be able to watch great ice floes and the glacier walls of more than 40 meters tall over the lake level.
Lago del Desierto
It is a great place to know. The Lago del Desierto is at 40 km away from El Chaltén across
road Ruta 23. In case you don't have car, there is a transfer service available at 9 AM or 2:30 PM.
You can also rent a car.
The travel is 1:30 hour across a gravel road and a peerless landscape. The road ends in the Lago del Desierto,
which you will find with an incredible green color. You can cross the lake through a suspension bridge and border
it by the left margin where you will find some small beaches. Other alternative is not to cross the lake and
bordering by the left margin you will reach the pier form which the craft departures to the north point of the
lake. This place is really very special since it has a unique view of the Lago del Desierto together
with the Fitz Roy.
Fantastic! Arriving at the parking sector of the lake, you will find a sign "Al Glaciar
Huemul" you should go! It is only a 45 minutes up walk across an incredible path of lengas until you
arrive to the Laguna Huemul and the Huemul hanging glacier.
